Three weeks ago, a group of intrepid football fans were nearing the end of an epic 300 mile trek from Whitby to Chesham, in just over a week. It was Friday night, the pubs of Aylesbury allowed a little respite after a tough weeks slog through the moors, town and cities and the hills of The Peak District.
Having done the hard yards, the boys could enjoy the final day, walking 11 miles into Chesham on Saturday 18th April to meet fellow Chelmsford City fans before the away game. Spirits were high, many in the traditional fancy dress for the final away trip. We’d hit our target of £14,000, and with gift aid to be added on, the figure of just under £17,000 would represent the highest raised in all 7 previous years hikes.
The CCFC Foundation were initially chosen as our beneficiary, and a more local, well deserving charity would’ve been hard to find. Assisting and supporting the vulnerable or those struggling to cope by utilising all the positive power sport can bring, CCFC Foundation can really change lives for the better and the hikers can’t wait to see the funds being put to great use.
There’s no doubt the whole experience was tough, many bruised and battered legs and feet would testify to that, but the group approached the challenge with a joyful stubbornness and grit to get the job done and even enjoy parts of it too – especially the apres – hike!
We hope a short presentation can take place in a couple of months, and on behalf of the hikers, we’d humbly like to thank all those many people who supported us.
